The boldSOCKS.com team has sponsored Mfizi, a young boy from Rwanda. The sponsorship allows the staff of Nyarusange Student Center to provide each sponsored child with Bible teaching, medical care, nutritious meals, health education, recreational activities, tuition and scholastic materials.

Heartside Ministry of Grand Rapids Michigan seeks to transform lives and their community by establishing relationships with underserved neighbors so that they may experience long-term, life-altering success through their advocacy department (social workers), referral services, support groups, therapeutic art, education, and pastoral care. They provide a safe environment for people to enrich their lives and grow through worship & spirituality, GED classes, an online computer center, a gallery showcasing neighbor artists’ works, and studios for painting, drawing, pottery, wood work, and fabric arts.

Winter in Detroit is COLD! The Empowerment Plan is a nonprofit organization dedicated to serving the homeless community. They hire homeless women from local shelters to become full time seamstresses. These women manufacture a coat that transforms into a sleeping bag, which is then given out to homeless individuals living on the streets at no cost to them.

In October of 2012, one of our founder's son was born with a cleft palate. We are very fortunate in our country to have access to the necessary medical care that such a birth defect requires. However, around the world many do not and that is where Operation Smile comes in. They are a mobilized force of medical professionals and caring hearts who provide safe, effective reconstructive surgery and related medical care for children born with facial deformities such as cleft lip and cleft palate.

We were excited to add Degage to our list of Bold Contributions, as one of our owners volunteers serving coffee here weekly. Degage serves 400-500 individuals daily in Grand Rapids, MI by offering help and hope to homeless and disadvantaged individuals in the community. Their programs include immediate and long-term needs, such as overnight respite for women in crisis, food, referral services and hygiene facilities.

Kids’ Food Basket a non profit organization, is a force for "Attacking Childhood Hunger in greater Grand Rapids." Their mission is to ensure children in the community do not go to bed hungry. They serve nearly 5,000 kids each day.

We chose to use Kiva as a means of donating funds for micro-finance loans. If you aren't familiar with micro-finance or Kiva, checkout their website to learn more. We picked 4 different entrepreneurs from different parts of the world who were also in the apparel business.

Healing with Hope and Happiness is a charitable organization that supports pediatric patients undergoing long-term medical care. Their focus is on providing gifts and items to entertain during treatment, distract during procedures or to simply bring some joy into sick children’s lives.

Athletes are given continuing opportunities to develop physical fitness and athletic skill, demonstrate courage, experience joy and participate in a sharing of gifts, skills, and friendship with their families, other Special Olympics athletes, and the community.

20 Liters began as the water initiative of Mars Hill Bible Church. After 5 years of focusing on providing clean water in Rwanda, the project and demand grew to bigger than one group could contain. The need is great so the ability to get should be likewise. 20 Liters was created to expand awareness and involvement with water issues to the global arena. People are in need of the most basic parts of life, water. 20 Liters is simply a demonstration that we are serious about caring for people in effective and sustainable ways and we’re inviting others to join us in expanding this work in Rwanda and elsewhere.
